Hope of the Student From Divorced Family

The divorce in a family not only gives the influence the couple but also to the children. Based on Iowa study, children from divorce family more often have feeling of despair, and they are twice feeling hopeless (30% versus 14%) or thinking to end their lives (16% versus 8%) than the adolescents whose parents are still married (Clarke-Stewart & Brentano, 2006: 118). However, if the family and the people around them making an effort and giving support to help them to be more adaptive with the situation happened, so that, it can alleviate the negative effect inside. This comes to the student’s hope at UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung Indonesia, whose family is divorce.

Hope is “a cognitive set that is based on a reciprocally-derived sense of successful agency (goal-directed determination) and pathways (planning to meet goals)” (Snyder, Harris, et al., 1991, p. 571). Hope consists of three aspects: goals, pathways, and agency.

This research uses descriptive-qualitative method with case study type. Observation and interviews used as data collection techniques. The aim of this research is to know the hope of student from divorced family. Subject of the research is one of the students of Faculty of Psychology in UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung.
